Synopsis
Invaluable list of the locomotives built by Beyer, Peacock between 1855 and 1958. Provides list of conventional locomotives and of Garratt locomotives showing order number, progressive number, how many built, wheel arrangement, date, gauge, and name of railway purchasing the engine. Includes brief history of the company and the development of Garratt locomotives. This list was compiled from Beyer, Peacock's original records which Dr. Hill saved when the Gorton Foundry closed. It has been thoroughly revised from the original list which was first published by the Newcomen Society (Volume 40, 1967-68) as an appendix to Dr. Hill's lecture "Some Contributions to Locomotive Development by Beyer, Peacock & Co." Illustrated with black and white photos. 36 pages.
