About the Author:

Roy Entwistle was born a long time ago in Manchester. For most of his career he taught politics at the city's Polytechnic (Metropolitan University) before taking early retirement.

An enthusiastic rather than skilled footballer, Roy took up refereeing and for almost 30 years has endeavoured (sometimes unsuccessfully) to persuade players to comply with the Laws and spirit of the game when they engage in emotional and physical combat on the park.
