Alison Prince won a scholarship to the Slade School of Art before turning to writing and reviewing books. She has since written 12 novels for children including The Sherwood Hero (Macmillan), winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize in 1996 and How's Business? (Hodder) which was shortlisted for the Smarties Prize. Second Chance won the 2001 Scottish Arts Council Children's Book Award. She lives on the Isle of Arran.
