Reviews

Gr 7-10-A medley of tips, facts, scenarios, quizzes, and real-life accounts to prepare young people for emergencies and disasters. With background graphics, drawings, and sidebars, the basics of such situations as house fires, flooding, animal attacks, or being lost in the wilderness are presented. There is plenty of good advice about how to keep warm, find your bearings, and use materials and knowledge to stay alive. Examples are taken from accidents that have happened around the globe. This is an interesting introduction to the topic, but Bradford Angier's How to Stay Alive in the Woods (Macmillan, 1962) is a time-tested classic with more complete information for North Americans.-Janet Woodward, Garfield High School, Seattle, WA
