Synopsis
A specially devised home exercise regime for women to help them prevent or reverse the effects of bone loss and stay fit, active and confident for life. It starts with information on how to assess your current level of fitness then takes you through choosing and using weights, body bars and exercise bands and fitness clothes. This is followed by a range of warm-up stretches and exercises then a full programme of weight-bearing and resistance exercises through to the final cool downs. The individual exercises can be tailored to suit personal fitness, strength and flexibility levels - from the super-fit down to those with weak knees. The spiral-bound, stand-up format means that the exercises can be followed easily to ensure correct technique. The purpose, correct technique and advice on adapting the exercise are featured on the top page while the bottom page takes you through the sequence step-by-step. Therefore, the exercises can be quickly accessed by the flip of a finger. Illustrated throughout with photographs and diagrams, and written in clear language, this is ideal for those new to strength training.

About the Author
Susie Dinan is a senior clinical exercise practitioner, Research Fellow at the University Department of Geriatric Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital, and Consultant to the Training and Development Division of the Central YMCA. She also is a government adviser on health issues and has written numerous articles and papers for both popular and scientific publications. She is the author of Fitness for Life. Dr. Joan Bassey is a leading specialist in the field of osteoporosis. A member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Osteoporosis Society, with whom she wrote of Exercise and Bone Health: Exercises to Prevent Osteoporosis, she has conducted several national surveys on the effects of exercise on bone health.
