Synopsis
This book is written for student social workers who are beginning to develop their skills and understanding of the requirements for practice. For all social workers the law provides the framework within which services are offered: it is impossible to practise without coming up against the law, and it is impossible to practise effectively without an in-depth understanding of how the law affects everyday social work practice. This book provides students with an understanding of the legal framework within which social workers must work.

About the Author
Robert Johns has over 25 years' experience of statutory social work across the full range: youth justice, mental health, disability, vulnerable adults and as a children's guardian. A deep commitment to social justice and unease about social workers' legal knowledge led him to teaching and researching in this area. He has taught applied social work law in higher education since 1986 on both professional qualifying and post-qualifying courses.
