This tribute, from Alastair Jackson, Director of the Masters of Foxhounds Association, was typical of the hunting world's response when Capt. Ronnie Wallace died aged 82 in a road accident in February 2002. Ronnie Wallace's genius as a hound breeder and his extraordinary achievements as a Master of Foxhounds were legendary. Shortly before his death he asked the leading hunting journalist, Michael Clayton, to collect and edit interviews he had given over many years for publication in one volume. The 'Wallace way' of breeding hounds, his technique of handling them in the field, his wisdom on foxhunting organisation and his advice on judging hounds shine through this remarkable manual which ranks as an important standard work on the great field sport which was his passion.

About the Author
Michael Clayton hunted frequently with Ronnie Wallace, in the Heythrop and Exmoor countries. He wrote a weekly column, "Foxford's Hunting Diary" throughout his 25 years' Editorship of Horse and Hound. The column reported riding to hounds with over 250 hunts in Britain, the USA and elsewhere. His Editorship included a term as Editor-in-Chief of Country Life, The Field and The Shooting Times. He continues to hunt regularly in Leicestershire and Rutland, and to write on hunting and equestrianism. His previous books include "A Hunting We Will Go", "The Golden Thread", "The Chase",and "Foxhunting in Paradise." Michael Clayton engaged in editing and producing this manual as a tribute to the foxhunter that most enhanced his enjoyment and knowledge of his sport.
