This British book is one of a series called Crafty Inventions. The play on words is deliberate. A question is asked, then a medical invention to answer the question is historically described, and a craft to understand it follows. False teeth, vaccination, and pacemakers are among the medical marvels. For example, "Can you see inside a person's brain?" the text asks in reference to CAT scanners. The craft is to make a decorative brain scan. It is happily illustrated with cartoon figures, not a sick person in sight. The book's pace is rapid, and the medical marvels seem to be in particular order. Still, it will stimulate teachers and children to study the medical advances of modern life.
