About the Author:
Anna Witte was born in Germany and grew up in Spain, before moving to America where she has lived for the last eighteen years. Her choice of colour, style and design is strongly influenced by Asian and Middle Eastern art forms as well as Islamic decorative arts although the story behind her painting comes first, changing and developing as the painting progresses. The Parrot Tico Tango is Anna's first title with Barefoot Books.
From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 3 - Young readers will immediately be drawn to this book by the vivid, colorful illustrations created from fabrics, paints, ink, and paper. Combining elements of a trickster tale and a cumulative story, the rhyming narrative describes how Tico Tango makes his way through the rainforest, snatching a yellow lemon, a purple fig, a red cherry, and other vibrantly colored goodies from his animal friends. The text on each page becomes progressively longer, repeating each of the stolen treats that the parrot carries along with him before pilfering the next item. The words are placed on the left-hand side, and the rest of the spread is covered with a large, lively jungle scene that offers plenty of details for readers to explore. A fun read-aloud, this book could also be used to introduce rainforest plants and animals, as well as for a study of art techniques. - Anne L. Tormohlen, Deerfield Elementary School, Lawrence, KS
