What a great read-aloud, sing-aloud, shout-aloud board book this is, with its fun-to-imitate animal sounds and rhythmic rhyme. Watch as bright yellow chicks, golden bees, and striped kitty cats play in the warm sunshine, clucking and buzzing and skitty-scatting. Then they rest, snoozy-woozy. But what is this? The pitter-patter of raindrops and the crash, bang, wallop of a storm—how will they get dry? Soon the sun and sweet breezes come out again.
With wonderfully textured art as well as a sleepytime ending, children will want to read this again and again.

Cathy MacLennan was born in Zimbabwe, and inspired by African art and culture, she painted her first picture at the age of six on the outside wall of her home. She has been painting murals ever since. Her commissions include corporate foyers and private homes, with children's bedrooms a speciality. Bold colours, movement and unusual surfaces are Cathy's hallmark. Cathy lives in England with her husband and two sons.
Starred Review. PreSchool-Grade 1—This rambunctious story has an onomatopoeic rhyming text that children will love to hear again and again. Chicky chicks, buzzy bees, and kitty cats romp in the sunny warm shine and snuggle in the sleepy shine until, "Pitter, patter. Pit. Pit. Patter. Splitter, splatter." Down comes the rain, which makes them "soggy, groggy moggy." "Sunny, sunny breeze and shine. Fluff and fur and fuzz." Inspired by the art and culture of her native Zimbabwe,MacLennan dabs, swirls, and sponges bright splashes of paint on brown butcher paper. Lively spreads and the creative placement of text express energy and movement to make this a unique, eye-catching experience. This creative book is as much fun to read aloud as it is to look at.—Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CT
