Synopsis

KEY FEATURES:

-Suitable for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various branches of engineering/general and applied sciences.
-Important topics interrelating mathematics & physics are briefly covered.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The book provides a general background in matrix, determinant and vector calculus, followed by some very important aspects in mathematics such as Dirac Delta Function, Analyticity, Orthogonality, Singularity, etc., along with 'complex functions and series analysis' are considered very useful in mathematical physics.

Important 'special functions' such as Hermite, Legendre, Laguerre, Chebyshev are also discussed in terms of their applications in quantum mechanics.

Important 'integral transforms', such as Fourier, Laplace and Hilbert are also described with an inclination towards 'applications' for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in various branches of engineering as well as for readers in postgraduate studies in general and applied sciences.

A chapter on Tensor Analysis is also included to briefly introduce the subject.

This is a book where the technologist meets the mathematicians.

About the Author

Dr R K Bera holds a postgraduate degree and doctorate in Applied Mathematics. He held important positions in Mathematics Department in various institutes and universities worldwide. He has presented papers and chaired technical sessions on linear and non-linear elasticity in many countries. Dr A K Bandyopadhyay obtained his Ph.D. from Sheffield University, UK. He has long research experience both in the UK and France on Nanotechnology. He taught mathematics to undergraduates and postgraduates on special functions and integral transforms in the application fronts. His present research interest is on non-linear dynamic system analysis and spatio-temporal solutions in nano-ferroelectrics for photonics applications. Dr P C Ray is also holds a doctorate degree and his Ph.D. work on non-linear fluid dynamics received international acclaim. His research on solar energy spectrum analysis has created a milestone in astrophysics. He is also doing extensive work on non-linear dynamics in ferroelectric systems, as well as on mechanical systems with non-linear vibrations in aeronautics.
