About the Author
Emma Garcia works as a school inspector in London. Her experience has given her a strong insight into what a young child enjoys reading. This knowledge gave her the inspiration for Tip Tip Dig Dig, which is her first book for children.

On the first spread, 18 colorful and lightly personified tools (most simply have eyes) create a splash against a bright yellow background, and Garcia poses the question: “What can we do with them?” Onomatopoeic answers follow telling exactly what each of the tools—saw, chisel, hammer, nails, drill, screwdriver, nuts and bolts, pliers, glue gun, wrench, vise, level, tape measure, mallet, jack, sander, and paint brush—can do. “We can cree craw cree craw cut with the saw and chippety chip with the chisel.” A two-page spread at the end pictures all the tools again, this time accompanied by the sound they make or task they do. This delightful feature engenders interaction as adults can invite children to name each tool and pose the final question, “What did we make with all these tools?” Although some drawings offered hints, only the last page reveals the bright red go-kart that was the product of all the activity. The unusual tools will intrigue youngsters, and it's a plus that the hand printed papers are from renewable resources. Preschool-Grade 1. --Patricia Austin
