Examining how the firm developed over the course of the 20th century, the author portrays how the broadcaster developed its own Scottish identity despite governance from London and how it thrived within the context of the history it reported and created.

About the Author
David Pat Walker's connection to the BBC began in Glasgow in his early life and his career with the corporation began to take shape when he joined the new television service in 1952. Working his way up the company to the position of Acting Controller in 1975, he played a key role in building up the Edinburgh base of BBC Scotland and made a notable contribution to the development of The Beechgrove Garden.

Pat Walker charts the continuing challenges and development in television and radio across drama, light entertainment, music, news, current affairs, sport and ground-breaking programmes such as the weekly series Scope.
