About the Author

Paul Collier was born in Manchester and brought up as a United supporter. His fascination for George Best was later brought to the attention of the Irishman's best friend and agent, Phil Hughes. Paul was by then a regular contributor of programme features as well as a diligent football researcher. He had also co-written the book Stairway 13 - The story of the 1971 Ibrox Disaster. George and Phil invited Paul to assist with Best's highly acclaimed autobiography Blessed and the popular follow up Scoring at Half - Time. Phil and Paul then compiled their own tribute book to George entitled Remember me for my football. They have followed this with their latest work Red Devils in Dark Suits. Phil Hughes was born in Llangollen and is a lifetime Man United supporter. His background is in the printing industry and textiles. A chance meeting in London's famous Blondes nightclub with George Best led to Phil becoming George's best friend and agent. The pair subsequently travelled the world together where Best's adoring fans loved to reminisce with him about George's footballing talents. Phil thought that such glowing adulation for his friend merited the tribute book Remember Me For My Football, which he subsequently compiled with Paul Collier. A further idea from Phil to produce a publication about the former Manchester United players who have become managers led to Red Devils in Dark Suits.
