Synopsis

The girl who has everything, now has a price on her head...
---

Lolly Rosewood is 16 years old and she is on the run. She has arrived in London, penniless, alone and – worse still – she has lost her fearsome superpowers.

She is being hunted by the police and the Security Service, MI5. She has no friends and very few people who would want to help her.

Lolly needs money and a place to lie low, while she formulates a plan to rescue Sir Michael Rosewood, her father, who is being held prisoner by the British Government at a secret location.

There is one person who may just agree to help Lolly. An old friend of her father. However, time is running out because the Security Service are hot on her trail...

This is a short story in the Class Heroes series. Never read a Class Heroes book before? Doesn't matter. This is a self-contained short story about one of the principal characters, Lolly Rosewood. Lolly has special abilities. She has enhanced physical strength and the ability to control fire. Except, right now, she has nothing but a price on her head. How will she survive?

Note regarding content: There are some, non-gratuitious, sexual references in the story and adult themes. Not suitable for readers aged under 15.

From the Author

Originally, I hadn't intended to write this novella.  There wasn't supposed to be a Where's Lolly? in the Class Heroes series.

When I finished book 2, What Happened in Witches Wood, I began work on the next book in the series (London Belongs to the Alchemist). Lolly Rosewood had been a main character in the first two books of the series, but she hadn't been a point-of-view character. We had seen her in action, but we didn't know what made her tick. She's a pyschopath, right? Who knows what makes her tick?

But she's a 16-year-old girl! What the heck happened to her to make her the way she is? What else is she capable of?

As I was writing London Belongs to the Alchemist, I came to really enjoy writing for Lolly. It was fascinating to give readers an insight into the head of this baddest of bad girls. Did she have a conscience? How does she perceive her place in the world? Is she capable of forming a relationship with anyone other than her father, Sir Michael Rosewood? We were all teenagers once, and we've all had our fair share of relationship difficulties, but Lolly is an extreme. It's clear she has an attachment to James Blake, but could it become anything more?

After I'd finished London Belongs to the Alchemist, I realized there was a large gap in time where a whole bunch of stuff must have happened to Lolly. She'd spent nearly a year on her own. What was she doing? How did she cope? I thought it would be fun to write a short story -- a novella -- which filled in that gap. I wanted to write a first-person narrative that was purely about Lolly. I wanted readers to get to know her, and thus Where's Lolly? was born.

I wanted the book to be free, and so I also needed it to be a standalone story, so that anybody who was tempted to download and read it could do so without having to have any knowledge of the other books in the series.

So here you are. A free young adult book, and a free superhero novel (or novella) rolled into one. I hope you enjoy it. The 'hero' of this book is actually the villain. But then there are always shades of grey.

About the Author

Stephen Henning is the author of the Class Heroes book series. He lives in the UK with his wife, Rebecca, who – rather handily – is an editor and proofreader. Equally fortuitously, whether it be out of love, duty or genuine enjoyment, she also reads his books. Stephen studied English Literature in Sheffield and went on to become a journalist for a regional newspaper in Manchester. He then moved into publishing and set up his own technical-communication consultancy, Elucidox Ltd, with his friend and colleague Andrew Butters. Elucidox publishes the Class Heroes books, which are aimed at teenagers and adults. Stephen has always enjoyed writing stories, making films and having fun. The Class Heroes books encompass all three of these hobbies, in no particular order.
