Soli is Asst SENCO and a fully qualified teacher with some 30 years experience; specialising in Inclusion, ADHD, Autism, Asperger's, Developmental Delay, Communication and Learning Difficulties, Down's Syndrome and Dyslexia. She has a senior role in a London mainstream primary school and has attended numerous SEN courses, workshops, exhibitions and has herself run training, workshops and planning sessions. Her son has ADHD and so knows what it's like to struggle and feel isolated. She has also produced a DVD "The Secret To Behaviour Success". Her consultancy Yellow Sun delivers support and advice to parents of children with special needs and challenging behaviour. Soli provides training and workshops to schools to promote understanding of special needs, inclusion and differentiation. Soli runs monthly meetings where parents meet up to share stories, swap ideas and to generally support one another. Soli delivers a brief training session at each meeting. Soli is passionate about raising awareness of how to manage children effectively to raise their self-esteem and promote emotional well-being. It is a disgrace that new teachers do not have specific training in ADHD. So she has set up a petition to the Government demanding proper training of teachers in ADHD. Finally, Soli wants to give back. So she donates a proportion of her income to projects that directly help struggling families.
Super little book filled with positive ideas to get you, your child and your school climbing the mountain together. Soli is an experienced Inclusion Specialist and Assistant SENCo and she turns experiences of success and failure into wisdom and inspiration. This isn't a book that tells you how to do your Local Authority's job for them, nor is it a Tribunal guide. It's about getting through the school door and having that conversation with your child's teacher that will make things start to click: it's about practical and well-tried ideas to bring a fresh approach to the needs of children with ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, social, emotional and mental health needs. Soli brings a healthy perspective and irresistible energy to familiar problems in this light-touch, beautifully-presented resource.
