About the Author

RORY O’CONOR was the youngest captain on the Navy List when he assumed command of HMS Hood in 1933. He was lost while in command of the cruiser Neptune in a minefield off Tripoli in December 1941. BRIAN LAVERY, author of several books, including The Last Big Gun, a biography of the career of HMS Belfast, is one of Britain’s leading naval historians and a prolific author.
