About the Author
Jean Roussen is a Swiss-French graphic designer and writer. He is the bestselling author of Beautiful Birds, also published by Flying Eye Books.
Loris Lora has had her work published in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. This is her first children’s picture book.

Toddler-PreS—This selection describes how animals of all kinds protect their young. Chipmunk babies stay safe underground. Rhino babies keep close by their mother's side. Bluebirds stay safe in a warm nest. Illustrations are done in a bright folk art style that calls attention to the patterns and geometric shapes found in nature. The animals have noticeably wide round eyes, which instantly encourages viewers to focus on the whimsically stylized creatures. The narrative has a rhyming style, which will keep readers engaged. Many of the pages begin with the name of the animal represented, which helps young children become acquainted with different types of animals. The book ends with the image of an interracial couple looking down at their child.
