Synopsis

In May of 1942, Scottish soldier Ian MacAndrew parachutes into the heart of Nazi-occupied Prague on a mission. His success could alter the course of World War 2. MacAndrew and his men are set to kill Reinhart Heydrich, the man best known as The Butcher of Prague. When things go from bad to worse, the veteran soldier finds himself thrust into a battle of myth and legend. With the marble-skinned warrior Donner Grimm at his side, MacAndrew must face off against necromancers, Nazi berserkers, and the power of the demons known as the Jotnar, all vying to bring about Ragnarok and the end of humanity. Nazis, Norse Gods, and Lovecraftian monsters: what more could you ask for in the midst of World War 2? Man With the Iron Heart is perfect for fans of Hellboy, Indiana Jones, Supernatural, Wolfenstein, Lovecraft, or Inglourious Basterds. Check out what critics are calling "a thrilling alternate history action & adventure," "occult suspense done right," and "the sort of men's adventure story that keeps readers on their toes from page 1." Man With the Iron Heart: A WW2 action & adventure fantasy/horror Novel.

From the Author

While the premise of this story is 'inspired by real events,' to say this action & adventure novel takes a couple of 'liberties' with history would be an understatement. Operation Anthropoid and its main members, Jan Kubis, Jozef Gabcik, Adolf Opalka, Josef Valcik, Rela Fafik, and the traitorous Karel Curda, were all real. As was the Butcher of Prague, Reinhard Heydrich. The Reichsprotektor's nickname, the 'man with the iron heart,' was where I took my title. Even poor Wittgenstein and Frank are based on real philosopher-scientists from the time period.

Beyond that, things do venture into the fictitious. As far as I know, Odin had very little to do with the war, and while a massive, white-skinned giant may have existed, I've read no documentation of the fact. I bent the facts to suit my needs and my timeline, and tried to do my best to put together an exciting, action-packed story that contained just enough nods to reality to make it fun.

Too much reality, I've found, is the best recipe for tedium.

The thing that confused me about this particular work was how to classify it. Because it was set at a very real time in world history and worked around a number of events, with real people as characters, would it be called an "alternate history" novel? It contains elements of science fiction, fantasy and even horror, but doesn't seem to fit squarely within any of those genres. To me, it best fit in a genre that no longer exists here in the early decades of the 21st century - in a genre that died out nearly 100 years ago.

For me, what I was writing was a "weird tale." Something that didn't quite fit the neat classifications of modern literature. I'd avoid calling it a "new pulp" story because I don't try to borrow the tropes or cliches of the men's adventure tales of the 30s and 40s, as is common practice these days. In spite of being set during the height of World War 2, I very much like to think of "Man With The Iron Heart" as a modern weird tale - quirky, un-categorizable, and a whole hell of a lot of fun.

I hope you feel the same way.

From the Back Cover

The mix of fantasy, horror, and action-adventure is a perfect blend for fans of Steampunk, Dieselpunk, Slipstream or Weird War Fiction, or for fans of authors lile China Mieville, Ramsey Campbell, or Robert McCammon. A great dieselpunk pulp thriller.
Book 2, THE UNWEAVING, will be available March 2015.
