Synopsis

“Are my paintings good enough to keep on painting?” Inka is on a quest to discover if she is good enough at painting to pursue it as her lifelong dream. But how would she ever find out and who would be able to tell her?

Abandoned on the roadside in a rainstorm at a young age, Inka was lucky enough to have been adopted by a finishing school for girls. But that roof over her head wouldn't last forever. After finding an advertisement for a psychic, Inka puts her trust in the universe and recklessly jumps ship, intent on finding her way across the country to the great Madga Gaska where she believes she will find peace in finally knowing her destiny. On the way, she gets caught up in a whirlwind of outlaws and bandits, twirling through the colours of the world around her, and Inka’s desire to know her fate before it’s due to arrive lands her in the terrifying truth of a life worth painting.

Eternal Inka leads to questions around what art even is. Does everyone make something? Are we all artists? What makes something beautiful? What does it mean to see through someone's gaze? Do we all see things differently?

The related music album, found on all major streaming platforms, includes 3 instrumental tracks for you to make your own songs with.

About the Author

Philosophy has been a passion of mine since a young age when the riddles of the universe first snuck into my soul and the everyday everydayness of life coming alive left me spellbound as if I could see things through a pair of kaleidoscopic spectacles.

My focus over the past twenty years of working in schools, external literacy programs and theatre has been to awaken the philosopher inside the minds of children to get them thinking about how they are thinking and wondering about why they are wondering by enchanting them with vivid stories, complex creatures, twinkling soundtracks and most importantly, questions.

From the Back Cover

Inka tries to capture the beauty of life via her paintings. Her love of life comes from the minds of the people she meets on her way. She adores them, and then paints the minds themselves. She loves the ordinary day. But inside, she is well aware of its passing. And she finds that frightening. Her unspoken quest (translated only in the paintings of the journal and the lyrics of her songs) becomes how to continue to love life, whilst knowing that it will indeed end. The price we pay for such a beautiful life, is its very beauty is mixed up with its impermanence. "An ordinary day, in an ordinary place, it's beautiful. And for this never-ending life, we only pay one price, that it's beautiful." From Inka's song The Flyliatrip Tapestry.

From the Inside Flap

Inka battles with an inner fear, constantly asking herself if she is good enough at painting to keep on painting. This is a metaphor for being good enough in general. In the words of her song, The Museum, "As the harbingers of gentleness are falling from the sky, to a labyrinth of proof that I'm just good at being alive." She discovers that the traditional crafts and fashions of the island on which she lives are extremely undervalued in comparison to the highly acclaimed paintings exhibited in prestigious art galleries. She notices that the crafts are predominantly created by women and paintings by men. She becomes aware of the value of money in these trades.
