The infantry have just crossed a river in Assault Boats and are fighting on the far bank to keep their bridgehead. The enemy is bringing up tanks so the infantry desperately needs support weapons to defend against the counterattack. A bridge is being built, but it will take most of the day to complete so our tanks and anti-tank weapons are unable to cross the river. To fill this gap between the initial assault and the completion of a bridge the engineers have built a number of rafts to ferry the support weapons across. One by one anti-tank guns and tanks are ferried across the river in time to fend off the enemy's tanks. This book is an extensive study of military rafting in World War II and concentrates on the equipment used by the British and United States engineers. It contains numerous original drawings of the equipment used, which were drawn by the author. Allied Assault Rafts is a companion the author's previously published book, `Allied Attack Boats'.
