Donald R. Hale has been researching the Civil War on the Missouri/Kansas border for the last 40 years. He has written numerous newspaper and magazine articles as well as two other books, "They Called him Bloody Bill" and "Branded as Rebels" which he co-authored with Joanne Chiles Eakin. Hale is currently president of the William Clarke Quantrill Society and the Lee's Summit (MO) Historical Society.
