In 1954 the United States Coast Guard Cutter Northwind was the first ship to conquer McClure Strait and chart a corridor through the Northwest Passage and the author was a member of the crew.
The book incvludes over 50 original color photos of the Arctic ice flow that have never been published. This is the first time the story has been officially documented. Due to global warming, the ice at the "Top of the World" may never look the same again.
