This, the Book (Script) for Romance of the Western Chamber--A Musical, is based on the thirteenth-century Chinese play Xi Xiang Ji,, which tells one of the great love stories in eastern and western literature. The play is remarkably modern and the subject matter "rich girl, poor boy" is universal. Rubenstein and Lee's Book is rendered in standard American English in free verse. The Score for the Musical has been published separately, as well as the scores for the Parts, and also a Rehearsal (Piano) score. The Musical has not yet been produced.
