Synopsis
Sara Finds a Mitzva is a beautifully illustrated storybook that highlights the importance of returning lost items to their owners.
When Sara finds a little toy duck abandoned on top of a mailbox, she and her grandmother embark on a search for the owner that takes them from place to place.

About the Author
Rebeka Simhaee was born in Tehran, Iran. She received her B.A. in Psychology and English from Queens College, and her Masters in Secondary Education in English from Hofstra University. The author lives in Great Neck, New York with her husband David, and their children, Avigail, Mordecai, and Chana. Sara Finds a Mitzva is her first book for Hachai Publishing.

While mailing a letter at the corner, Sara and her bubby (grandmother) discover an abandoned toy duck with black button eyes and soft white wings. Eager to perform Hashavas Aveida—the mitzvah (good deed) of returning a lost item—the two search for clues to the duck’s missing owner at a candy store, a dress shop, the bakery, and a toy store, finally reuniting girl and toy. Sara is pleased with her success but even happier when Bubby presents her with her own duck. Young readers will enjoy following the clues in this mystery and appreciate that Simhaee brings them all together at the end. Weber’s brightly colored, crosshatch drawings portray an inner-city Orthodox Jewish neighborhood where males all wear head coverings (and prayer shawl fringes dangle from beneath their shirts) and females clothe themselves in skirts or dresses. This will be welcomed by religious schools and useful in public libraries where demand for Judaica is great. Preschool-Grade 1. --Kay Weisman
