About the Author:

Sophia Christine Murphy is a specialist in anthroposophic homeopathic medicines and therapies. She was, for many years, Director of Weleda USA and later founded Lilipoh magazine. An author of several books, she currently lives in Dingle on the southwest coast of Ireland.

This is a compilation of articles originally published in the former Lilipoh (now Spiritual Science) magazine espousing the principles of anthroposophy as founded by Rudolph Steiner in the early 20th century. Anthroposophers argue for freedom of choice in healthcare, in this case against mandatory immunization of children in most instances. By not allowing the body to struggle naturally with illness, they say, immunization lays the groundwork for chronic illnesses such as asthma, autism, diabetes, Crohn's and irritable bowel disease, arthritis, and attention deficit disorder. As an alternative, practitioners often prescribe naturopathic or homeopathic treatments and remedies. This book is divided into several sections: the problem with vaccination, how to treat childhood illnesses, treating the effects of immunization, and resources. The studies and statistics mentioned throughout are not referenced in either foot- or endnotes. Although there are medical reasons to examine national immunization policies, this book presents a more philosophical, pseudoscientific basis for withholding vaccination in infants and children. As a result, it is not recommended except for collections covering alternative health controversies. Libraries needing a more clinical guide should consider Hal B.
