About the Author

Vincent E. Sescoe has been an avid writer since the age of 10. At 13, he wrote and illustrated a family newsletter and sent away for travel brochures to fuel his travel fantasies. His appetite for travel was finally satisfied when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his military career, Vince served overseas for 12 years, traveling extensively throughout Asia and Europe, both for business and pleasure. He used his many travel opportunities to learn more about the foreign lands he visited.

Vince's writing career began as a reporter and cartoonist for the USAF and received an American Legion Commendation. When he returned home to Washington, DC, he attended Howard University as a fine arts major and wrote for his school newspaper. He also served on the editorial board of a prestigious classified Federal journal and wrote feature articles for in-house government periodicals.

Vince has been fascinated with Civil War history for more than 40 years. Double Time, his first young adult novel, is the culmination of many years of passionate research on his favorite subject. In addition to writing, his other interests include volunteer service, gourmet cooking, and watercolor painting. He resides in Reston, Virginia, with his wife, Gillian.

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up-After an accident in their father's top-secret lab, Jason must go back in time from 2097 to the Civil War to find his sister. Since their mother died four years earlier, the twins' father has been even more distant, and now Jason fears that he has lost Jaynie as well. Once in the past, Jason encounters Daniel, a runaway slave who saw her captured by a band of minstrels in a yellow wagon. The two teens track the wagon to Gettysburg, escaping several times from both Union and Confederate troops before getting her back. The story is too full of coincidences and, other than Daniel, peopled with fairly flat characters. Jason comes across as a typical angry young man, and Jaynie, aside from one or two instances, acts like a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued. Daniel is much more of a fully realized character whose decisions and actions don't seem scripted, except when he decides to stay with Jason rather than go with a band of escaped slaves the boys encounter. Overall, this is a book that only die-hard time-travel fans or Civil War buffs may enjoy.
