Obsessed with food in her teens, Joanne James Russell began cooking and studying about food. In her twenties, Joanne became a fashion buyer and model for a couture store in Florida which sent her to New York City every month to attend the runway shows of some of the great designers like Bill Blass, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, and Bob Mackie. While working in New York, Joanne dined at some of New York s finest restaurants. It was this experience with fine dining and food preparation that took Joanne to the next level in appreciating the culinary arts. Since her fashion career, Joanne has completed numerous cooking schools. Recently Joanne completed a course called Techniques of Healthy Cooking from the Culinary Institute of America; she also completed an Olive Oil Consultants course from the Italian Food and Beverage Institute. Additionally, Joanne owned her own catering company, taught several cooking classes, and catered numerous parties including the opening party for fitness guru Tony Little in Florida, and dinner for the crew of CNN while taping a spot on Rabbit Ridge in California. As a former runway model, Joanne has always had to stay in shape. It was this challenge that forced her to cook food that was satisfying and yet not too full of fat and carbohydrates. However, she admits there are times when food should be enjoyed without worrying about the calories involved. Joanne recently started producing and bottling estate extra virgin olive oil grown from Italian olive trees planted on her property in California. Great olive oil is one of the most crucial ingredients in Joanne s kitchen.
