About this title

About the Author

Mary Schatz graduated with a B.A. in philosophy from St. Lawrence University. She attended Boston University where she received a M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy which she has taught for over 26 years. In addition to teaching, she has been an English and writing tutor. Mary's tutoring and writing about grammar grew out of her frustration with correcting student papers. The papers were full of grammatical errors. When she pointed out that a sentence was a fragment because it lacked a verb, the usual response was, "What's a verb?" And so began Mary's second vocation as a tutor and third as a writer.
