Blueprint for Hatred
In reflex to the beautiful balance of the new 5906 Smith and Wesson, my hand bobbed a couple times as I pulled it out of the glove box. The muzzle felt especially cool against the 100-degree-plus heat of Meridian, Texas.
Smith and Wesson were my friends, my remedy for the fact that I could not stand what I was - so stinking religious that I hated what I saw in the mirror. Empty of a real relationship with God, I'd become just like those pretenders at Sunday services who carried out their weekly duty as a formality. Guys I had wanted to kill in earlier years. Now I was one of them, and a quick death seemed only right.
To end my misery, I had driven out of town with my 9mm handgun, screaming at God all the way, "I ain't no good the way I am. I'm worse now than before I met You!" I had fallen off the spiritual road with the Living God and stepped onto a religious journey - one that was manmade, carnal and so full of me that I'd lost the presence of God. I had become what I had always hated most - a religious phony! Gone was God's miraculous power from when He saved me out of my murderous background.
