Patricia Schnering is an adjunct instructor of HIM at St. Petersburg College, and serves on its advisory board. In addition to experience as an HIM supervisor and consultant, she is the founder and owner of PRG Publishing Inc., where she published the first Professional Review Guides. Ms. Schering has served as president of GCHIMA and on FHIMA's board of directors, where she twice received the FHIMA Literary Award. She is also a member of AHIMA and the Assembly on Education (AOE). In addition to a B.S.in business administration from the University of South Florida, she is a graduate of the health information management program at St. Petersburg College, and holds both CCS and RHIA certifications.
Deborah Butts is a 1979 graduate of the Health Information Management (formerly Medical Record Administration) program of Clark Atlanta University in Atlant, GA. Ms. Butts received her Master's degree in Management from Webster University in St. Louis, MS in 1983. Her HIM Experience includes: 12 years as HIM Program Director and Assistant Professor in the Baccalaureate RHIA program at Texas Southern University, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Houston, TX. 3 years as Evening Supervisor for Medical Records at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, TX. 2 years as Coding Analyst at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Numerous Consultant and other positions in Health Information Management. Currently she is the director of Health Information Management Department at North Harris College in Houston, TX.
Debra Cook is a graduate of the Health Information Management and the Adult Education programs at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Her HIM experience includes: 5 years in acute health care practice in a variety of positions including management, UR and QM coordinator, and coding, 10 years in HIM education at Alderson-Broaddus College and Marshall University in West Virginia, and Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC, and is currently employed by Catawba Valley Community College as HIM Program Director.
Susan McDermott, RHIA is a 1980 graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch. She is currently Director of the Health Information Technology Program at Central Piedmont Community College. She is a member of AHIMA Item Writing Team and Publications Chair for NCHIMA. Ms. McDermott was named the NCHIMA's Distinguished Member in 1997 and won the state association's Volunteer of the Year Award in 1998.
Anita Hazelwood, MLS, RHIA, FAHIMA, is an Associate Professor in the Health Information Management Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette located in Lafayette, LA. She has a bachelor's degree in Medical Record Science, a Masters Degree in Library Science and has been a credentialed Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) for 25 years.
