About the Author:
Author and historian Dr. Wayne C. Temple, Chief Deputy Director of the Illinois State Archives, is called the Dean of Lincoln Scholars. Over the sixty plus years he has researched the life and career of the 16th President, Dr. Temple has received many awards and honors, including the Lincoln Diploma of Honor, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois State Historical Society, A Lifetime Achievement Award at Lincoln Memorial University, and a Life Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (London). He also received the Bicentennial Order of Lincoln Laureate Award (2009), is an Emeritus Regent of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois (2011), and was named a Distinguished Director of the Abraham Lincoln Association in February 2012. The author credits his unending passion for history to University of Illinois Professors J. G. Randall and R. N. Current. Temple received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Illinois under their direction, and taught briefly at the University. Later, he became a John Wingate Weeks Professor of History at Lincoln Memorial University and, for fifteen years, he edited the Lincoln Herald.
