An ancient sentient entity is feasting on the very fabric of space and time. Only one man can stop it: The Engineer, last survivor of the destroyed Earth. Utilizing a colossal pipe organ that enables pan-dimensional travel, The Engineer pursues the lost components of The Konstrukt, an archaic mechanism that imbues whoever possesses it with the ability to manipulate reality itself, in the hopes of using it to defeat the creature and undo the incalculable damage it has already done. Giant bat creatures, were-crabs, immense rock creatures, amorphous witches, and armies of undead abound in this pulpy sci-fi romp for all ages! Collects and completes The Engineer series.

Grade 7 Up—Top-notch artwork and a fun, action-packed story make this an entertaining read. Set in an interdimensional universe of swords, sorcery, and futuristic technology, the narrative follows the adventures of The Engineer, a former cosmonaut who risks life and limb to reassemble the pieces of the Konstrukt. This esoteric device is the only thing that can prevent an evil entity from destroying all of existence. Throw in some one-liners, zombies, crab creatures, and a clunky robot and you've got a goofy, explosive romp. The artwork is reminiscent of Jeff Smith's "Bone" series (Scholastic). While less serious in tone, the mystic, mash-up plot of The Engineer will likely appeal to fans of Mike Mignola's "Hellboy" series (Dark Horse). Unfortunately, the overall narrative is too scattered to be truly effective, and the persona of The Engineer too mutable to be truly likable. Still, there is a lot of potential in this series and it will be interesting to see where The Engineer ends up next.—Douglas P. Davey, Halton Hills Public Library, Ontario, Canada
