Reviews

PreSchool-Grade 2–A little pig can't get to sleep because of monsters lurking under the bed. His mother not only confirms his fears by pulling out a green goblin, but she also tells him to move over. When he protests, Mom blithely retorts, It will be even cozier when the other four monsters get tucked in tight. Laughing and indifferent to her son's concerns, she cuddles and delouses the beasts. After being pinched and prodded by his new bedmates, the piglet is then admonished for not being more friendly. Charcoal sketches with mossy green and brown watercolor washes show an unappealing assortment of creatures with long snouts and upturned incisors. When the ruckus becomes intolerable, the little pig slyly sends the monsters down the hall to his mother's room. The rhymes are sometimes forced, as is the humor.–Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canada
