I've been here before. Diana walked slowly through the grove until she was at it s center. She looked about. Blue sky, punctuated with the occasional cloud, filled the sky over her head. Dotted all around her were some early spring flowers. Daisies, she mused. Birds chirped happily. Diana turned around a full 360 degrees. Again, it happens...here. What happens here? Diana sat on the grass and allowed her mind to go blank. Then images filled her mind. She allowed them to flow freely by themselves.
A remembered dream filled her with anticipation. She was with David. They were making out. She had stripped to the waist. She wanted to do something, she was feeling much...what? Diana frowned. Nothing jives. I should be wanting this, but I do not. She settled on her visualizations once again.
Others were approaching slowly. Then more and more. A black and white patrol car entered the parking lot, and rolled to a stop behind her tiny automobile. Diana forced herself to the here and now. She watched the officers exit their vehicles and approach her car.
Waving, Diana approached the two policemen. When she entered the parking lot and was able to take in the scene as a whole, she froze, her heart caught in her throat.
A dark colored sedan was parked at the far end of the lot. Its single occupant was smiling. His discolored facial features left no doubt as to his identity: Burbank police sergeant Brickman. Diana knew exactly what was coming next, as the two officers approached.
"Diana Cooke?" She noticed one officer stood back, observing, one hand on his automatic while his partner, a two striper with several hash marks on his sleeve indicating service years, did the speaking.
Diana's voice was laced with contempt as she hoped she was communicating with her eyes. "Is there a right or a wrong answer to that question, you fucking stooge?"
The officers eyes twinkled merrily. The charge officer produced a bag filled with a white powder. "You are under arrest for possession of cocaine."
