About the Author

General James H. Polk graduated from West Point in 1933 and was commissioned in the US Cavalry. During WWII he commanded the Third Cavalry Group (Mecz.) under Gen. George Patton, and was decorated three times for valor in action. Gen.Polk served in the Cold War in Europe for fifteen years, ending his military career as Commander-in-Chief, US Army Europe and Central Army Group, NATO. He is buried with his devoted Army wife of 55 years, Josephine "Joey" Polk, at Arlington National Cemetery
