About the Author:
Steven M. Birnbaum, Esq., attended New York University and and studied law at New College of California School of Law in San Francisco. From 1978 through 1982 he served as staff attorney for Legal Assistance to the Elderly. In 1983 he began his private practice, specializing in worker’s compensation under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the California Labor Code. Mr. Birnbaum is a certified specialist in workers’ compensation (State Bar of California). Currently, he serves as a board member of the ATLA Workplace Injury Litigation Group and as the chairman of the ATLA Workers’ Compensation Section. He is also the chairman and a co-founder of the San Francisco Maritime Claimant’s Bar, and a member of the Applicant’s Attorney Association. He frequently lectures for the Industrial Claims Association, the Longshore Claims Association, Loyola University (New Orleans), the ATLA National College of Advocacy, and the Northwest Longshore Administrators Association.Stephen C. Embry, Esq., is a partner in Embry and Neusner in Groton, Connecticut. His practice is primarily limited by personal preference to personal in-jury, workers compensation, Longshore and Harbor Workers Act and product liability. He is a graduate of the American University School of International Service in 1971 and the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1975. Mr. Embry is the past Chairman of the American Trial Lawyers Association Section on Workers Compensation and is presently on the Board of Directors at the Workplace Injury Litigation Group of the American Trial Lawyers Association.Ralph R. Lorberbaum, Esq., received his undergraduate, B.B.A., degree from the University of Georgia in 1970 and his Doctorate Juris from Emory University in 1973. He has been in private practice with a sub-specialty in Longshore work since 1978. He serves on the Benefits Review Board Service Advisory Board and is an officer in the Workers Compensation Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. He practice focuses primarily on representation of claimants under Georgia Workers Compensation and the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act.
