Zane B. Stein was born in 1951. He took up astrology in 1969. From 1977 he has closely studied Chiron, being one of the original researchers. A US citizen by birth, he currently resides in Australia.

Essence and Application: A View From Chiron is an updated version of the book published in 1995. The author elicits the meaning of Chiron from several reference points. He elaborates on many keywords and phrases - the maverick, healing and "wholemaking," turning point, pulling the plug, quest, etc. - and offers ideas from Buddhist and Christian thought, medicine and healing, quantum physics, and more. The astrological applications of Chiron are covered very thoroughly. Stein writes about Chiron's natal sign and house, transits (and the significance of the first square), aspects (including 135, 165 and 72 degree), and its use in synastry, progressions, and return charts. Even if you are an experienced Chiron watcher, you will learn a lot from Zane Stein's book. I know of no other source that investigates Chiron's meaning with such breadth and depth; many other astrologers have been influenced by Stein's ideas. One of the many terms he uses to define Chiron is synergism, defined as "the simultaneous action of separate agencies which, together, have greater total effect than the sum of their individual efforts." He sees a part of Chiron that "forces us to accept that something in us needs to change," and it helps us "to perceive the direction we need to go to do so." Zane Stein understands Chiron in a very intelligent and magical way. Astrologers who have not known of his work until now will be enchanted with A View From Chiron.
