About the Author:
Catherine Ritch Guess is a published composer and author of inspirational fiction, non-fiction and children’s books with 20 books currently in print. Prior to her appointment through the United Methodist Church as the Circuit Riding Musician – a position that allows her to serve globally through her writing, speaking and music - Catherine served 35 years as an Organist/Minister of Music in churches, taught music in a private school and entertained audiences around the globe in her travels.
She is a frequent speaker/musician for national and international conferences in a variety of venues, and was selected one of the International FACES of the UMC in 2004. Through Catherine’s children’s series, RUDY THE RED PIG, she has developed the non-profit Rudy & Friends Reading Pen, Inc., to help replenish libraries for children of natural disaster areas. She also holds free cultural arts camps and carnivals for children of the same areas. Rudy adopted the South Hancock Elementary School of Pearlington, MS (the first school to open in MS since Katrina) and placed nearly 12,000 books in their library. In addition, she’s provided rockers, hand-painted from artists around the country, so that each classroom has its own reading center.
Her latest venture is a comedy series featuring Miz Eudora Rumph of Smackass Gap, NC, which happens to be a real place. Catherine, dressed as Miz Eudora, is taking audiences by storm across America through the simple mountain wit and wisdom of her Appalachian grandmother. In the author’s words, "People in today’s society take themselves way too seriously or get caught up in unnecessary stresses. A good dose of Miz Eudora is a cure for all that ails you, and also for that which don’t!" Appearances include Pigeon Forge, a Christmas concert with 4 American Idols, Paula Deen’s Lady & Sons’ Restaurant and the International Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah, KY. (www.mizeudora.com)
A radio personality who once interviewed her said of Guess, "Catherine’s lightning quick wit and musical talent are astonishing enough, but combined with her never ending source of positive energy, the woman is a ball of fire that’s sure to inspire." And for those who have the privilege of a piano or keyboard, put Catherine on it and from Bach to Broadway to Boogie, she’ll have the audience enthralled in the rhythms of life.
Catherine, who lives on her grandfather’s farm in Indian Trail, NC, holds degrees in Church Music and Music Ed, and a Master’s degree in Christian Education. Her greatest joy, besides her family, is bringing hope and laughter to those whom she meets in her travels and through her books. She has been introduced as an author, composer, comedienne, entertainer, inspirational speaker, teacher, musician and missionary, but her favorite way to be acknowledged is "down-home friend."
