From the Inside Flap:

Lionel electric trains evoke childhood memories of holiday layouts and year-round excitement. Most often remembered are the fun and the excitement of emulating a railroad empire: loading lumber, dumping barrels, unloading milk cans and watching the cattle and horses continuously enter and exit their railway cars. All this play value was brought to us by Lionel's innovative leadership in developing operating cars. This path-breaking volume brings these memories back to life with full-color pictures and a complete chronology of Lionel's postwar operating cars, including information on production, rarity, prototypes and pricing. It is the first reference guide to include complete information on every item, including its original box, insert/liner, packed envelope, instruction sheet, and any other peripherals that came with it. This comprehensive level of research has never been presented with such detail and clarity.Based on thousands of authentic internal Lionel documents as well as expert observations of two leading postwar historians, Joseph P. Algozzini and Emanuel F. Piazza, this volume provides the most complete and "authoritative" guide to Lionel's operating cars. It is the first of many volumes in Project Roar Publishing's "Lionel Postwar Encyclopedia Series."
