Ardeana Hamlin's now-classic Pink Chimneys, set in nineteenth-century Maine, centered around a notorious Bangor brothel and told the story of the resilient Fanny, her daughter Elizabeth, and Maude, a midwife. Abbott's Reach updates the lives of that unforgettable cast of characters and introduces a new leading lady, Elizabeth's daughter M. M is a headstrong, emotional woman about to go to sea with her husband, setting the stage for an exciting tale of romance, adventure, and family strife.

Ardeana Hamlin works at the Bangor Daily News and is a Kennebec Valley girl who grew up in Bingham in the 1950s and 1960s in the days of river drives, a veneer mill, and woods operations. She is the daughter of an Avon lady and a registered Maine Guide. She started working in the newspaper business as a freelance writer in 1985 and as a proofreader, copyeditor, reporter, and columnist in 2000. She enjoys digging in the dirt of her flower beds, doing needlework, and lolling in a hammock under the maple tree at her home in Hampden. In addition to Pink Chimneys, she wrote A Dream of Paris.
"The characters are bright, amusing and entertaining, and the adventure Hamlin has brewed is turbulent as a tempest at times, but also full of light and beauty, both local and foreign. When you pick up the book, choose a comfortable seat on a rainy day, because the many forks in M's road will keep you guessing which way the story will go." --Aislinn Sarnacki, Bangor Daily News
"Fans of historical fiction will find Abbott s Reach to be a masterpiece of vivid historical accuracy. Vibrant character development and intricate, careful plotting, provide colorful and exciting insight into Maine's seafaring families in the 1870s. ... Hamlin's skillful portrayal of M and the challenges she faces give this story a true sense of realism and satisfying romance." --Bill Bushnell, Morning Sentinel
