About the Author:
Michael P. Mills is a Federal Judge living in Oxford, Mississippi and a former member of the Mississippi Supreme Court and the Mississippi Legislature. He holds degrees from Itawamba Community College, the University of Mississippi and the University of Virginia School of Law.
Review:
Mills offers a look at politics behind the headlines and as good a description of the intricacies and laugh-out-loud truths of rural politics in Mississippi as I've ever read. It's a book without guile or pretense, just honest stories that are too funny not to be true. --Sid Salter, Perspective Editor, The Jackson Clarion Ledger
Mills has written a memoir that is far more than that. It documents the storytelling culture of northeast Mississippi in a way no one has done before and it offers a revealing inside view of Mississippi political life over the last two decades. Mills is a sharp observer of people and places, a man of scholarly bent who can put what he sees into broad perspective ... Above all, though, this is a witty book. You'll slap your knees when you read about Sut-N-Goober from the bottomlands and the many other folks who jump off the pages of this finely crafted book. --Charles Reagan Wilson, University of Mississippi, Center for Southern Culture
In the best tradition of southern storytelling, Judge Mills recoounts his tales with great skill and humor. Reading them is like having the good fortune to be seated next to the most interesting guest at a dinner party. So sit down, pour yourself some sweet tea, and prepare to be entertained. --Beth Weinhouse, Editor-in-Chief, Conceive Magazine
