Development of The 3-5-7 Model© Workbook: Supporting the Work of Children, Youth and Families towards Permanency was coordinated by Stephanie Hodge Wolfe, based on the work of Darla L. Henry.'
The workbook is intended to be used as a tool to assist families and professionals in working with children, youth and families as they grieve losses and re-build relationships. This workbook is designed to provide a beginning set of ideas and activities for professionals working with children and families as they support the important work of their journey to actualize permanency.
The workbook begins with an overview of each of the three tasks of the 3-5-7 Model©. For each of the three tasks, the workbook then provides a practical framework for approaching the work by identifying the key concept, primary questions and suggested activities associated with each task.
Activity descriptions include:
Often those helping children, youth and families in their work wonder if they are on the right path and often become unsure about what to do next. The answers to their questions become evident the more they understand and use the broader concepts of the 3-5-7 Model©.
Following each set of activities are a set of questions to consider. Examining these questions in the context of one’s own personal experiences and journey will enhance understanding of the concepts and allow for more success when supporting children, youth and families in their journeys.
Additionally, at the conclusion of the workbook a reference page provides a list of resources that can further the learning surrounding the 3-5-7 Model© concepts.
Praise for the 3-5-7 Model:
"It has so much truth and down to earth reality and Greatness in it that I have the paperback cover worn out."
"I have used the model repeatedly with children of all ages while helping with Lifebooks. But more than that, I have been using it to teach the adults in the lives of these same children. I've used it to help them understand what the children are going through because, most of the time, the children can't express it for themselves."
"It's the children's behaviors that are their voices. The 3-5-7 model translates that language into words so adults can understand. I'm just the interpreter."
"The 3-5-7 Model is child friendly and kids are easily engaged."
"The 3-5-7 Model... allows worker to get to know child and increases child's ability to communicate."
"I truly feel lucky to have participated in this training early on in my career and I know that the children I work with will definitely benefit because of it."
