About the Author

Dr. Bob Laronga has been a student of martial arts for most of his life. At the age of twelve, he read a book on combat judo, and was intrigued with the concept of defeating a bigger and stronger opponent by using the opponent s force against him. At age 13, he enrolled in a Judo class that was held every Saturday morning. As soon as Bob turned fifteen, he started training in Tae-Kwon-Do. After high school, Bob stopped training to pursue his college education. Over the next several years, he would find periods of time in which he could resume training. During this period, he studied Tae-Kwon-Do under All-Korea-Japan national champion and Tae-Kwon-Do Hall of Famer, Master Yeon Hee Park. After setting up his practice, Bob again resumed training, this time studying Shotokan Karate. He enjoyed the training, but always felt as if something was missing. In all the years of on-and-off training, he never learned any techniques to use against a knife or a gun attack. Finally, in 1988, he began training in Hakko-Ryu Jiu Jitsu, under Sensei Al Cornacchio. He found the missing pieces in his martial arts education, and trained with Sensei Cornacchio until 1994, finally earning the black belt that he felt he could be proud of. He moved to Florida in 1994, and has since been teaching on a part-time basis. In 2004, with the full endorsement of his instructor, Dr. Laronga founded BCDK Aikijitsu, a blend of the best principles and techniques from all of his training. BCDK stands for Basics, Control, Discipline, and Ki, which are the essential elements of the style, and also represent the four levels of expertise.
