The first volume in a new reprinting of a famous manga series featuring a tiny but mighty dinosaur, Gon, is a wordless, gorgeously illustrated adventure showing the feisty reptile in all his lovable, sassy glory as he outeats, outsleeps, outfierces, and outmaneuvers other wildlife in the forest and on the plains. Even without dialogue or narration, the story line in each chapter is easy to follow, providing a fantastic introduction to visual literacy, albeit with a slight edge. Gon should appeal to kids who have outgrown Andy Runton’s similarly wordless Owly graphic novels and are looking for a bit of National Geographic- or Animal Planet-level gore in their comics.
