About the Author:
William Kist, an associate professor at Kent State University, has been researching classroom uses of new media for over a decade. Growing out of his own experience as a high school English teacher, his profiles of teachers who are broadening our conception of literacy were included in his first book, New Literacies in Action, and have been expanded in his second book, The Socially Networked Classroom, focusing on the uses of Web 2.0 in the classroom. His new book, forthcoming from Solution Tree Press, spotlights teachers who are reaching out with their students to connect internationally using new media.

With over fifty articles or book chapters to his credit, Kist and has been sought out for interviews in the popular press regarding new literacies including such publications as U.S. News and World, The Observer (UK), and Education Week s Digital Directions; he also reviews books for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and is a member of the National Book Critics Circle.

Remaining active in video production work over the years, Dr. Kist is the recipient of an Ohio Educational Broadcasting Network Commission (OEBIE) Honorable Mention for the documentary The Learning Age and a regional Emmy Award nomination for outstanding achievement in music composition for the documentary series Our Family.

Review:

"In The Global School, William Kist provides 21st century educators with an essential road map for how to incorporate global learning into the classroom. Ideas, projects, lesson plans, resources, and assessments are all included, making this a tremendously valuable text. Once again, Kist profiles teachers who are leading the charge in engaging their students in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and more. This is a book for everyone from the superintendent to the classroom teacher. If you've previously heard about 'global knowledge' and didn't know what it was, then The Global School will provide the answer. I can see it on the professional bookshelf of every school; it will come in handy for years to come."

--Frank W. Baker, Media Literacy Clearinghouse, Inc., Columbia, South Carolina
