Building the Dawn Patrol, Volume 1: Spad XIII is the first book in a series about building and flying Radio Control models of WWI aircraft. The book has 172 photos, all but 12 in color, showing how to build and fly the Spad XIII in its 66 pages. It also has color profiles of 16 individual aircraft and factory color schemes for four different manufacturers as well as drawings of the original aircraft from NASM and stencils to letter the aircraft built by the author.

Mr. Wilkins is an historian, writer, museum professional, and master model maker. He has been Director & Curator of two museums, and has worked for the Smithsonian & Mystic Seaport. Mr. Wilkins has a master’s degree in history from Harvard University, and is currently working on several books relating to WWI aviation. Mr. Wilkins is a regular contributor to the following magazines: Aviation History, Air & Space, Model Aviation, Model Airplane News, and RCM&E. Mr. Wilkins is serving as historical consultant and Producer of Aerial Effects for a feature documentary on the Lafayette Escadrille.
