This book is a collection of poems written for a poetry-writing class at a lifelong-learning center in Baltimore. The author explains that after a long career as a professional newspaper writer, he turned to studying and writing poetry in his search for ''news that remains news.'' The poems may be of interest for several reasons: for the simple pleasure of reading well-wrought sentences about an older person's real experiences; as an example of what may still be achieved after retirement by aspiring poets; and for the glimpse the collection provides into the inner life of their author.
