Synopsis

Lee Tucker never imagined such grief as the day when her husband decided to take his own life. Her troubles only escalate when she discovers he also left her pregnant and one million dollars in debt to a dangerous loan shark.

Out of options and on the run, she escapes to the small Oregon town where her deceased mother's home still remains in her family. The dilapidated house echoes Lee's feelings. Like her, it's financially ruined, heartbroken and in desperate need of a fresh start.

Lee develops a plan to refurbish the house and reinvent her life by opening a restaurant named Riversong. In doing so, she finds a second chance for passion and love, but danger lurks as her growing business attracts the unwanted attention of her dead husband's debt collector.

Riversong assembles a colorful cast of endearing small-town characters and takes you on a journey that will make you believe in the possibilities of life - even in the face of overwhelming adversity and unimaginable grief. A surprising mix of romance, intrigue and even gourmet food, Riversong entertains and reminds us of life's greatest gifts.

From the Author

It's been over five years since "Riversong" was first released. Since then, I've written nine more novels. They're all special to me, but a writer's first book is like their first-born child--they have a special place in your heart. In addition, mastering the craft of storytelling is like parenting. We learn along the way what to do and not do, while accepting our lack of perfection.

Of all my books, I can remember exactly where I was when I wrote certain passages. I had young children then and fit writing in when I could. Sometimes it was in the car waiting for them to finish ballet class. Other times, it was at five a.m. when the house was quiet and my mind uncluttered. I wasn't sure what I wanted or expected from a writing career, other than to finish a novel. Just finish! When it was done, I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to write another. Happily, that wasn't the case.

I've grown a lot as a writer in five years. However, "Riversong" is from my heart--born of blood, sweat and tears and a whole lot of courage. Most people in my life laughed at me when I confessed I was writing a book. Some to my face, some behind my back. It was hard to break through all my self-doubt, not to mention that of family and friends. But I did. I know now that part of my journey as a woman was to break past my fears and to listen to my heart. When I accepted myself for who I truly am, many things fell into place.

Like Lee in "Riversong", we've all had horrific tragedies, and yet we persevere. With our messy, broken hearts, we move forward. We forgive, we heal, we fight--for a second chance, or a new life, or to find love once again. This book is about that kind of courage. Lee and her story were inspired by all the real women I've known throughout my life that rise from the ashes to live again.

About the Author

Tess Thompson is a bestselling novelist of romantic suspense. She's also a Zumba dancing queen, though the wearing of the crown is reserved for invitation-only appearances. Recently she's participated in obstacle course races, the hardest of which was the Spartan Beast in Sun Peaks, British Columbia. It was an awful experience that will soon be included in a novel. There was running. And climbing a mountain. And obstacles, like walls and crawling under barbed wire. She is not the running or obstacle queen.

Like her characters in the River Valley Collection
, Tess hails from a small town in southern Oregon, and will always feel like a small town girl, despite the fact she's lived in Seattle for over twenty-five years. She loves music and dancing, books and bubble baths, cooking and wine, movies and snuggling. She cries at sappy commercials and thinks kissing in the rain should be done whenever possible. Although she tries to act like a lady, there may or may not have been a few times in the last several years when she's gotten slightly carried away watching the Seattle Seahawks play, but that could also just be a nasty rumor.
She currently lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington with her brand new husband, the hero of her own love story, and their Brady Bunch clan of two sons, two daughters and five cats, all of whom keep her too busy, often confused, but always amazed. Yes, that's four kids, three of whom are teenagers, and five cats. Pray for her.
