paperback. Condition: Neu. Neu Neuware, Restauflage, auf Lager - Each year in the United States, more than 3 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI). From sports concussions to severe injuries from motor vehicle collisions or falls to brain injury in the military, the issues facing clinicians caring for individuals with TBI are varied and complex. Pocket-sized and portable, the 'Manual of Traumatic Brain Injury Management' provides relevant clinical information in a succinct, readily accessible format. The book features expert authors drawn from the fields of rehabilitation medicine, neurology, physical and occupational therapy, and related areas, and covers the range of TBI, from concussion to severe injury. 'Manual of Traumatic Brain Injury' is comprised of six sections. The first two sections provide an introduction to core concepts and address the epidemiology of TBI and injury prevention. Section 3 covers the spectrum of issues pertaining to mild TBI (MTBI), including sports concussion, long term sequelae of MTBI, Post-Concussion Disorder, and the co-occurrence of MTBI and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Section 4 focuses on moderate to severe TBI, from pre-hospital care to acute neurosurgical and intensive care unit management, through transition to inpatient rehabilitation and the role of members of the rehabilitation team in caring for those with TBI. Management of the cognitive, behavioral and affective manifestations of TBI is addressed, as is prognosis after TBI and community reintegration. Section 5 covers TBI-related medical complications, such as post-traumatic seizures, endocrine dysfunction and spasticity. The concluding section focuses on special considerations in TBI management, including TBI in the military, pediatric TBI and TBI in the older adult, use of complementary and alternative medicine modalities in TBI, and additional resources for TBI survivors and their providers. The final chapter offers a unique coda: living with TBI from a survivor's perspective. This title is concise yet comprehensive - covers all aspects of TBI and its management. It is organized to be consistent with the way TBI is managed, flowing from initial injury through community living post-TBI and allowing clinicians to key in on relevant topics quickly.
